This month we spoke with our East Tennesee Sales Rep Mike Phillips. A true expert in the foodservice world, we got Mike's take on some trends he's seeing in the industry, along with his thoughts on where things are headed. We also learned a little more about him, including where he dreams of vacationing next. 

What excites you most about your job?

The relationships that have been built and being a resource for my customers.

What do you as the biggest challenges facing the restaurant industry today?

Rising costs, worker shortages, and supply chain issues. 

Are there any current trends in foodservice that stand out to you?

Alternative proteins and local sourcing. 

Where do you see the future of this industry headed?

Delivery and take out continue to grow. And robotics and automation being used to help ease the labor shortage. 

What are some of your passions outside of work?

Golf, deep sea fishing, and hanging out with my 3.5 year old grandson. 

Do you have a a go-to meal? 

Mexican food, Coke or water for beverages. And I enjoy heading to the restaurants Connors and Hard Knox Pizza in Knoxville.

What is your favorite vacation destination? 

30A and Ocean Isle Beach in North Carolina. 

What's at the top of your bucket list?

I checked one off this summer when I went to Scotland and played golf. The next one would be Ireland.
