For this month's edition of PMR Preview, we're chatting with Michael Ross. Our Smallwares Specialist in Louisiana, Michael is new to the foodservice industry but brings a lot of enthusiasm and a love of good food. Which we all know is a great combination! Let's find out a little more about him, his love of all things Louisiana sports, and where his dream vacation destination is.
Tell us a bit about yourself. How did you wind up at PMR?
I was born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. A family friend who's also in the food industry put me in touch with Shannon Steward. I was then introduced to Bobby Clay and Susan Carter, who are part of the Louisiana territory team at PMR. Needless to say, I am beyond happy that my family friend made that first introduction!
What do you enjoy most about working at PMR?
The teamwork values and environment that PMR provides make everyone feel like family. Working at PMR makes me want to push myself to do the best work that I can every day. No matter what territory you are in, everyone at PMR is open to helping each other in any way that they can.
What excites you most about your job?
Creating relationships with others in the industry. Walking in as a new guy (and) seeing all of the relationships that PMR has built is great. What others would see as a work relationship, I see as a friendship that was built.
Where do you see the future of the industry headed?
I see nothing but great things for the future of the food(service) industry. As cities and states grow, so does the industry. Food and drink are a universal language that everyone speaks.
What is your favorite restaurant, and why?
Louisiana Lagniappe in Baton Rouge. It is a hole-in-the-wall seafood restaurant that I have been going to since I was a kid. Seafood is my favorite, and everything on their menu is great!
What are some of your passions outside of work?
My favorite thing to do outside of work is play golf. In golf, there is always another skill to master. There's always room for improvement. Whether you are playing by yourself or with friends, there is always fun to be had every time.
Are you a fan of any sports teams?
Any Louisiana sports team has my heart. I am (also) an LSU alum (and) have not missed an LSU football home game in 13 years.
What’s at the top of your bucket list?
The top of my bucket list is traveling to Norway. I want to see the northern lights and ski above the clouds!
